Hard work makes me feel fulfilled when I can actually see the love and effort I’ve poured in reflected back through wagging tails, sloppy kisses, and peaceful naps.
With pets, hard work isn’t glamorous—it’s 6 a.m. walks when you’d rather stay in bed, learning to cook healthier meals when it’s easier to grab kibble, and repeating the same “sit, stay, down” commands a hundred times before it finally clicks. But the payoff is incredible. Watching my dogs thrive because of the time and care I’ve invested makes every moment worth it.
That’s the heartbeat behind Pawrenting Guide for the New Pawrent. It’s about embracing the real work of training, understanding, and bonding with your pup—not just the Instagram-worthy moments, but the messy, challenging, growth-filled ones. And in Cooking for Your Pup, that same spirit shows up in the kitchen. There’s something deeply satisfying about putting in the effort to prepare meals that fuel both body and soul, and then watching your pup lick the bowl clean with pure joy.
For me, fulfillment isn’t about the “end result.” It’s about knowing that my hard work creates a healthier, happier, more loving life for my furry ones. And that, honestly, is the best reward I could ever ask for.

That’s what The Adventures of Sauli the Rescue Pup series is all about. It’s about choosing the longer road, the harder one—the one where you rescue instead of buy, where you stay even when it’s inconvenient, and where you build trust one muddy pawprint at a time.
When I adopted Sauli, I wasn’t looking for perfection. I was looking for a pulse that matched mine. And what I got was a firecracker disguised as a dog—a furry soul who teaches me every single day how to live a little wilder and love a little deeper.
Our newest book, Sauli and the Great Escape, is the perfect example of that wild love. It’s about what happens when rules are broken, fences are jumped, and everyone around is left breathless trying to keep up. But it’s also about returning—always—to each other, to safety, to home.
If this blog and these books can nudge just one person toward adopting instead of shopping, toward seeing the value in the unruly, the misunderstood, the rescued, then I’ve done what I came here to do.

In an alternate universe, I don’t sit behind a screen writing about a wild, mischievous rescue pup named Sauli. No, in that world, I am the pup.
Yep, four paws, high energy, and no concept of personal boundaries.
In that version of reality, I’m not chasing deadlines—I’m chasing squirrels. I don’t juggle meetings—I’m juggling chew toys, tug ropes, and escape plans from yet another crate setup that absolutely cannot hold me. The world is a wide open park, and every puddle is an opportunity.
But here’s the twist: in that alternate universe, my human—me, in this current universe—is the one picking up after me, trying to keep up with my shenanigans, and somehow still smiling (even after I’ve turned their carefully curated living room into a Jackson Pollock mud painting).
That version of me, the canine version, has one motto: chaos with a side of charm.
Which brings me right back to this universe, where instead of barking, I write books about the very real Sauli who inspired an entire illustrated series—The Adventures of Sauli the Rescue Pup. We’re now three books in, and the latest one, Sauli and the Great Escape, is probably the wildest ride yet.
It’s the one where the groomer gave up, the daycare called for backup, and Sauli… well, Sauli decided the rules didn’t apply to her.
It’s a tribute to every stubborn, spirited soul who refuses to be tamed—and every human who still chooses love, adventure, and adoption over perfection.
Alternate universe or not, I wouldn’t trade this life for anything. Because in the end, I may not have four paws, but I do have a best friend who does. And she’s shown me how wildly freeing it can be to run, leap, and live with your whole heart—crate escapes and all.
