When I first met Sauli, I thought I was doing the noble thing—rescuing a dog who needed a home. What I didn’t realize was that she’d be the one rescuing me, in ways I didn’t even know I needed.
She didn’t come with an instruction manual. She came with boundless energy, fear of confinement, a bark that could rattle doors, and a knack for escaping just when I thought I had things under control. In the beginning, I mistook her restlessness for defiance. But over time, I realized it was something deeper—her way of saying, “I’ve been through things too. I’m learning to trust you.”
And that’s when it hit me: the hardest goal I’ve ever set for myself wasn’t writing a book, changing careers, or even moving across continents. It was learning to stay open—to love without trying to control, to nurture without expectation, and to keep showing up even when it gets messy.
Because real love, like rescue, isn’t tidy.
It’s unpredictable. It’s exhausting. It’s also the most healing thing you’ll ever experience.
That journey became The Adventures of Sauli the Rescue Pup—a series of stories that blend humor, heartbreak, and hope, all seen through the lens of one extraordinary dog who turned my life upside down and my heart inside out.
And now, in Book 3 – Sauli and the Great Escape, she’s at it again. There are fences, friendships, and a fearless chase for freedom that mirrors something all of us are looking for: the courage to live wildly, love deeply, and find our way home.
So yes—the hardest goal I’ve ever set was also the simplest:
to love without running away.
