Do you play in your daily life? What says “playtime” to you?
Playtime, for me, isn’t just an activity—it’s a state of being that infuses life with creativity, connection, and joy. Daily life offers countless opportunities for playful exploration, often found in the simplest of moments.
Take my pawrenting adventures, for instance. Every day with my pups is an invitation to play. Whether I’m whipping up a fun, nutritious meal for them from Cooking For Your Pup or inventing games that transform training sessions into shared laughter, playtime becomes a bridge of love and understanding. When Sugarplum mischievously chases her tail or Sauli tilts his head at my attempts to sing them a carol, it’s a reminder to let go of perfection and embrace the silly, spontaneous joy of the moment.

Play, to me, is not confined to toys or structured activities—it’s about approaching life with a spirit of curiosity and openness. It’s in the way I experiment with holiday recipes, decorating cookies for my family and sneaking in pup-safe treats for my furry companions. It’s in turning mundane tasks, like organizing their leashes, into a mini adventure as we prepare for our next outing.
Ultimately, playtime is woven into my everyday life as a chance to celebrate, connect, and cherish the big and small wonders that make life extraordinary. It’s about living in the moment, paws and all.
Playtime also has a deeper resonance for me—it’s where creativity, healing, and connection intersect. As a pawrent, my pets have taught me that play isn’t just entertainment; it’s a language of love and trust. Whether it’s chasing bubbles in the backyard or turning a quiet evening into a cozy snuggle session, play becomes a way to say, I see you. I cherish you.
This philosophy extends beyond my time with them. When I write, it feels like play too—a dance of words, emotions, and ideas that flow freely. It’s the same feeling as watching my dogs chase the wind: effortless, joyful, and uninhibited. When I created The Pawrenting Company Podcast, every story I shared, every laugh I recorded, felt like capturing a moment of play to share with others.
Playtime, for me, also means reclaiming wonder. In the hustle of adult responsibilities, it’s easy to lose that spark of curiosity we had as children. But when I step back—when I let myself laugh at a pup’s silly antics or marvel at how they instinctively know when I’m feeling down—I’m reminded that play is an act of presence. It’s saying yes to life’s quirks and messes, embracing them for the beauty they bring.
Even during the holidays, play becomes a thread connecting everything. Wrapping gifts turns into a game of “keep the ribbon away from Sugarplum.” Baking cookies becomes a competition with myself to craft treats that my dogs and I can enjoy together. Decorating the tree becomes a moment of wonder when Sauli sits, entranced, by the twinkling lights.
In essence, playtime is not something I set aside; it’s the way I live, love, and create. It’s how I connect with the world around me, whether it’s through my furry family, my creative work, or simply embracing life’s little joys. It’s a reminder that even in the busiest moments, there’s always time to laugh, explore, and be a little silly—and that’s the real magic of it all.
