If you could meet a historical figure, who would it be and why?
There is no need for me to explain why Laika is a historical figure. She was the very first dog sent to space onboard Sputnik2.
When I get a chance to meet her, I want to apologize. I will do this on behalf of Humanity. We all let her down.
There was so much that could have been done better for her. First, if a human endured the experience she went through, we would feel assured. We did this to him with consent. Clearly, there was no obligation to seek consent from her.
Secondly, a human would have requested far more provisions to survive while orbiting space. They would not merely agree to last in the spacecraft for only a couple of days.
The dog almost instantly died after launch given the limited amount of provisioning done for her on the spacecraft.
Humans have fallen to much lower levels since this event. Given the wars and the number of innocent lives, we have lost. I feel very responsible for what we did to Laika. We need to apologize.
